Michelle Branch Files for Divorce

Michelle Branch releases herself from the marriage knot.

On Friday, the musician filed for divorce from her husband, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney.

In the document, Branch cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, and the filing said, “the parties are no longer capable of resuming their marital relationship and living together as husband and wife.”

Branch decided to divorce her husband of three years just a day after announcing their separation amid infidelity rumors and his arrest over an alleged domestic dispute between the two.

In the divorce papers, Branch requested to be the primary residential parent for son Rhys James and daughter Willie Jacquet, and “reasonable parenting time privileges” for carney while he provides child support.

“To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family,” Branch stated at the time, after her posting on Twitter and deleting allegations of Carney’s cheating.

“The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me, and now I must figure out how to move forward. With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”

Branch Allegedly Arrested

Branch was taken into custody on August 11 and charged with domestic assault. Per an arrest affidavit, police were summoned to their home at 2 a.m. for a domestic disturbance.

The singer told the authorities she and her husband were discussing marital matters and confessed to slapping Carney in the face “one to two times,” said the document. Carney, however, did not have any visible wounds.

Branch was freed on a $1000 bond, and her court date has been scheduled for November 7.

Carney and Branch tied the knot in April 2019. The latter has a daughter, 17-year-old Owen Isabelle, from a previous marriage, while the pair have two children, Rhys James, 4, and Willie Jacquet, born in February.

Having their family has not been a barrier to Branch and Carney’s music careers.

In May, The Black Keys dropped Dropout Boogie – their eleventh album, while Branch is set to release her next record, The Trouble with Fever, on September 16. The first single in that album, “I’m a Man,” is now out.
