On Sunday night, the MTV Video Music Awards 2022, anchored by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow, occurred at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The biggest and brightest stars in music were honored, and a few even took home a Moon Person trophy. However, the celebration was milder than the previous year’s festivities.
Audiences were in for performances from Anitta, Blackpink, Lizzo, Maneskin, Jack Harlow, J Balvin, Marchmello x Khalid, Panic! at the Disco, and Kane Brown – who set records as the first male country singer to perform at the VMAs.
A mega trippy and fierce team-up between Eminem and Snoop Dogg, who went all out in performing their track, “From the D 2 and the LBC,” graced the stage.
Among the evening’s highlights was the juncture when Minaj was given the vied Video Vanguard Award. The musician, who has bagged 17 VMA nominations throughout her career, started by playing a mash-up of her hits that consisted of everything from “Super Bass” to her most recent song, “Super Freaky Girl.”
Following her acceptance of the award, she provided a heartwarming remark about how she hoped Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson could be there to honor her.
“I wish people took mental health seriously, even for those who seem to have perfect lives,” she stated of the late music icons.
The moment that would surely make the top talked-about juncture in the ceremony came at the show’s end when Taylor Swift snagged the Video of the Year award.
Following her Moon Person trophy acceptance, she announced her newest album dropping on October 21 and said she would give out more information at midnight.
