Cooper Street Cookies was founded in 2011 by Elaine Surnow and her sons, Max and Sam, inspired by a century-old family recipe passed down from Surnow’s great-grandmother. The company adapted the traditional mandel bread recipe by lowering sugar, salt, and fat to create a lighter, modern version. Starting with farmers’ markets in Michigan, Cooper Street quickly expanded to major retailers like Kroger, Sam’s Club, Amazon, and Costco.
The Cherry White Chip variety combines smooth white chocolate with tart Michigan cherries. Blueberry Lemon features Michigan blueberries with a refreshing citrus note, while Orange Cranberry blends sweet orange zest with tart cranberries. Cinnamon Chocolate Chip, Cooper Street’s original flavor, remains a fan favorite, and Brownie Chocolate Crunch offers a rich, chocolatey bite.
Cooper Street’s production has evolved over the years, from a home kitchen to a rented facility in Pontiac and eventually to a dedicated manufacturing site. Max Surnow’s strategic business plan, developed through Michigan State University’s Product Center, helped the company scale operations and secure key retail partnerships. Early support from Kroger paved the way for Cooper Street’s national distribution and ongoing growth.
The Hill Road Costco Roadshow marks another milestone for Cooper Street, reflecting the brand’s expansion and commitment to delivering high-quality snacks to new customers. Representatives from Cooper Street will be on-site during the event, offering samples and sharing the company’s story with Costco shoppers.
The roadshow will take place from Thursday, March 13, through Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Hill Road Costco warehouse. Shoppers are encouraged to visit early to sample Cooper Street products and take advantage of special pricing.
