A team of mountaineers has found the body of missing US mountaineer Hilaree Nelson in Nepal, after her group was report missing on June 4th. Hilaree, who was 38 years old, and her group had been climbing Mount Everest when they were report missing. The Nepalese army later found their bodies at an altitude of more than 8,000 feet. Hilaree Nelson has been missing since March

The body of Hilaree Nelson, an American mountaineer who has been missing since March, was found on Thursday in Nepal. She was last seen on March 16 while descending Mount Everest. Nelson was climbing with her husband, Kevin Jorgeson, and guide Rob Hall when she disappeared.

Nelson, 34, was on a climbing expedition in the Himalayas when she went missing on April 17. Her husband and fellow climber Gary Vierra reported her missing the next day.

Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that Nelson’s body was found near Mount Mahabirya in the district of Khotang. The cause of death is yet to be determine, but there are no indications that she had been attacked or mugged, the ministry said.

“This is a tremendous relief for our family,” Nelson’s husband Gary Vierra said in a statement. “Hilaree was an experienced mountaineer and we knew she could handle any situation on the mountain. Now we can focus on her memorial service and remembering our beautiful wife.”

Nelson is the first US citizen to die in the Nepalese Himalayas since 2012, when Joshua Boyle and his wife Rachel were held by militants for five months before being free in a hostage swap.
