From Suits to the Streets: Jenanne Filat’s New Streetwear Collection Weaves Style, Culture, and Innovation into High Fashion

Whether you call her the suit queen, the queen of custom, or by her Instagram handle, @ms.bespoke, one thing is for sure: Jenanne Filat hates being labeled. “I don’t like labels because they confine you to a specific area of style and my designs are anything but confined, they are fluid, ever changing, and break through gender barriers.”

Her menswear suiting collections, which are her claim to fame, have brought about a cult-like following, but this following didn’t happen because of her conformity to the typical male led industry standards and expectations. It was her defiance toward every single rule, ignoring the norm, and creating what her instincts told her to that set the standard of her designs. “Conforming to the masses and scaling designs to the masses might allow someone to get popular for a short while, but then they become boring very quickly.”

Although many of her suitings have a classic vibe, her designs have transformed the industry by elevating the expectations behind suitings and luxury clothing. “Our industry is very secretive and these secrets have caused a lack of knowledge with the consumers. I strive to educate everyone that wears my designs and make sure they understand what makes an ethical, sustainable, and good quality garment and it’s not necessarily the name or the price tag on the garment that decides that.”

But suiting isn’t all she knows and this comes across very clearly in her new streetwear label scheduled to debut in Fall 2021 at one of the most prestigious fashion weeks in the world. The collection pays homage to her Palestinian culture and the culture of the entire Middle East. “Streetwear is where my creativity shines and this collection is defiant, unexpected, yet simple. It’s a style liberation for anyone that wears it.”

Whether it’s suiting, couture gowns, or streetwear, her designs flow  harmoniously together with functionality and a sophistication that is recognizably Jenanne.

What’s even more astonishing is she has achieved this on her own with no formal design training and is completely self-taught and self-made, creating concepts and bringing them to life without ever taking a pencil to a sketchbook.

Jenanne is currently in collaborative talks with one of the biggest names in the fashion industry. The highly anticipated collaboration will consist of very exclusive pieces that feature artwork done by middle eastern artists and is set to launch late Fall 2021.
