Ariel is a judge at the Sunset Film Festival and Hollywood Screenings Film Festival in Los Angeles and is the owner of Lavi Company in Miami, FL. He has been interviewed all over the world.

Recently, the film he produced in Mexico, Metanoia, won awards in New York City and 32 others all over the world. The film has also won many other awards across the US, from Los Angeles to New York City

Metanoia describes the marriage between Ana and Sarah, which falls apart while an unknown threat is growing on Earth. When a mysterious package arrives at their front door containing a device that’s extraterrestrial in nature, it creates even further problems between the couple. When Ana accidentally inhales gas from the device, it transforms her completely, resulting in her running away.

The cast includes famous Mexican actress Jessica Decote and features Laura Di Luca and Carlos Hendrick. Metanoia was written by David Gigena Kazimierczak and directed by Moran Avni.

We are excited to interview the international film producer and screenwriter.

Congratulations on all the awards for Metanoia in New York City and in general

“Thanks. The film won Honorable Mention Best Fantasy at the New York Movie Awards, Best LGBTQ at Oniros Film Awards in New York, and Best LGBTQ at New York International Film Awards.”

What inspired you to take on this project?

“LGBTQ+ representation in fantasy films has not been as extensive as in other genres. While progress is being made, it is still tricky to find LGBTQ+ characters in fantasy movies. In most, they are given minor roles. As a producer, I feel it is high time we do something. I wanted a fantasy film that not only has LGBTQ+ characters, but the characters are the leads—something that will help queer teens and everyone else in the community feel less alone and more comfortable in their identities.”

How did you feel when you discovered your film won the award?

“It was amazing! The film getting so much recognition is a great honor. The award is especially meaningful because it speaks to the hard work, determination, and dedication of everyone involved. The team behind Metanoia has been very supportive and helpful in bringing this project to life. I am very grateful for their support.”

What do you think prevents many people from succeeding in the film industry?

“It’s a combination of many things, but I believe it all narrows down to business skills, belief, and luck. A lot of people don’t believe in their ideas. They get one ‘NO’ and are ready to give up instead of defending their proposal or project. Many also get into the industry blindly—with zero business skills.”

What do you mean by business skills?

“People don’t know how to market themselves. They focus on selling rather than building trust and interacting with their target audience, and in this day and age, consumers are more ‘drawn’ to brands they feel connected to. Another grave mistake is neglecting social media.

A strong social media presence is crucial for success today. It makes your brand more visible and increases engagement and opportunities.”
What advice would you give to aspiring filmmakers looking to make a name for themselves in the industry—give us a piece of advice on how to distribute a film

“It’s impossible to give one piece of advice. Each film has a different genre, story, and goals, and the strategies that work for one will likely not work for the other. Choosing the best film festivals and film distributors is complicated. But I would recommend having an experienced attorney before signing any distribution contract. You don’t want to find yourself locked in a long-term contract with tons of expenses, and the distributor is nowhere to be found. It is also important to do a bit of research on your own. This information will help you strengthen your business model and avoid costly mistakes.”

We know your film was screened at Kraine Theatre in New York City

“The film was screened at the New York Movie Awards for the win with other films; It was amazing.”

Lastly, What can we expect to see from you in the future—any exciting projects you have in the works?

“I have a few projects in development right now that I’m really excited about, and looking forward to bringing them to life on the big screen and sharing them with the viewers. Sadly, I can’t reveal too much. All I can say is they definitely have unique and compelling stories. I plan to continue producing films that tell meaningful and engaging stories that resonate with audiences.”
