What was it like being on reality TV, and would you do it again?
To me, it actually feels like what I was meant to do. I always struggled in school and figuring out what I’d be good at. I’m someone who always has her heart on her sleeve and finds so much fulfillment in entertaining other people, so it just makes a lot of sense! I’d definitely do it again.
What is something you learned from seeing yourself on TV?
I never realized how many facial expressions I had or how much I talked with my hands! Besides that, though, I saw a lot of how I tend to be a people pleaser, and it encouraged me to set better boundaries.
What has been your focus since the show?
Self-evolvement! As cliche as it sounds, I really went out of my comfort zone to travel and find myself. I’m now focused on pageantry, which I feel really fits with that. I also sing in a cover band almost every weekend!
Has music always been a part of your life, and who is your biggest inspiration?
I could sing before I could even talk! Singing has always been something I found very therapeutic. I’m actually self-taught. My biggest inspiration is Lady Gaga!
What does it mean to be part of the LGBTQ+ community, and why is it so important to advocate?
To me, it means embracing your truth even when it’s easier to live a lie. A quote that really stuck with me is, “Pride is important because there are people who think they’re better off dead than being themselves.” So as an openly queer woman, I think it’s so important to show that life doesn’t have to be limited just because of who we love.
What’s next for you and what are your goals for the next year?
For this year, I’ve decided to just put the future in God’s hands and trust the timing and journey he has for me. I’m just continuing to put myself out there and see what sticks.
