The digital era is undoubtedly changing the way we do business, but it’s also giving rise to new opportunities. As a result, more and more industries are leaning towards this change while still maintaining their traditional values.

The annual New York Fashion Week saw a digital fantasy with designer Maisie Schloss’ 7-foot tall holographic models sporting chic partywear.

When the guests walked into this gallery venue on the weekend, they were greeted by an installation of virtual models standing in line and repeating motions similar to those made by GIFs. Mattel’s dolls inspire these models in “Monster High,” a franchise released in the 2010s.

Some wore green and blue body paints, ears and fins of creatures while they went around the space with hips swayed and fingers pointed at guests, at times radiating animated blue lightning or bubbles.

These futuristic pieces have an overpouring detailing that points to the possible virtual future of fashion. A few models sported VR glasses – with several throwback 2000s outlines, including sparkling party tops and body con designs as well as vinyl trench coats.

Schloss stated that they wanted to “really push the whole fantasy of what we can create” in the team up with Yahoo. “I really wanted to serve as a study of the often blurry line between reality and fantasy – what makes something that is real feel unreal?” she said in a video call.

Schloss is a designer who started her career under Kanye West’s supervision. She worked her way up from an assistant position with Yeezy to a womenswear designer, and he gave the first grant from his incubator program three years ago – which led Schloss to establish her label.  After that, she ascended her status within the fashion industry, with her designs worn by Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, and Kylie Jenner and has appeared in Euphoria, an HBO show.
