The multitalented individual’s relationship with music started early. When he was only four years old, his professional jazz guitarist father taught him how to play the guitar. The budding instrumentalist learned a great deal from his father, and before long, he developed a strong passion for music. From then on, the young man actively pursued his craft by playing at church and joining the choir during middle and high school.
In 2010, Lucas Muñoz moved to Florida, where he currently resides. His new environment opened up his horizons, and he became influenced by famous guitarists like Joe Bonamassa, Slash, Gary Moore, Eric Johnson, and Eric Johnson.
Inspired by this, the dedicated individual started investing in his artistry more. Alongside his father, he began playing a combination of jazz, Latin, blues, and fusion in the local scene. Through consistent practice, he developed his skills in playing guitar, singing, and songwriting. Eventually, he expanded his horizons and branched out into other genres.
In 2020, Lucas Muñoz released his debut EP Mutasis, which can be purchased digitally and streamed online. It is an excellent embodiment of the young singer’s passion and creativity as he himself wrote, recorded, and produced the album. The record showcases his influences while delving into the music he enjoys listening to today, such as dark pop, hip-hop, alternative, blues, and rock.
Because of his innate musical prowess, the up-and-coming independent artist is making waves in the music industry. He continues to make music at his home studio and also lends a hand to other artists in the Tampa Bay area as a session guitarist.
Aside from his stellar command of his craft, what makes the skilled musician stand out is his courage to step out of his comfort zone and remain authentic. The insightful young man shared, “I try to write music that is a blend of multiple styles to create one sound while giving nods to playing styles in the past. Music is a subjective commodity, and I try to expand creativity even though it may initially sound foreign to me. Most of what paid off for me, in the long run, was playing styles that people were not accustomed to me performing.” He went on to add, “One of the pitfalls of a musician is being confined to a particular genre and not experimenting with other music styles.”
Lucas Muñoz is undeniably one of the most talented independent artists of his generation. Yet, despite this, the devoted singer-songwriter remains committed to his unrivaled work ethic and impressive risk-taking philosophy.
